This s a plan is for a ceramics center in Beijing. My intention was to design a building keenly aware of the ground-one to contrast with the high-rises that shoot up nearby, competing for height. I was also determined to create a work of architecture to help reestablish the preexisting spatial structure of Beijing, which is deeply rooted in looal culture and order. I hope this wil engender new interactions between people and the enviroment,As I walked around Being's hutongs, alleyways lined with traditional courtyard houses (siheyuan), i was charmedby the rows of roofs interspersed with trees. I therefore decided to focus on the center's gabled roofs and design them in a way that reasserts a connection between roof and ground. The roofs add new rhythm to the flat alleyway and help the project fit into the surrounding hutong, One might help the project fit into the surrounding hutong One might think of this building as a piece of landscape that contributes to the charm of the city.
