This project involves the development of a cluster of IT-related companies in the Misumi district of Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The aim is to attract IT-related companies from urban areas and organically connect them with local businesses, thereby promoting industrial digital transformation (DX), fostering innovation, and improving productivity. It also seeks to create new employment opportunities for young people and encourage their retention in the city. The project aims to become a central facility for this purpose. This plan involves renovating a former vocational school, primarily as a satellite office, while also incorporating functions such as a cafe/restaurant, event space, networking space, and shared kitchen. By maximizing the city's rich assets—its natural environment, food, and hot springs—and creating a workplace that offers attractive working styles not available in urban areas, the project aims to create a multi-purpose hub that will be chosen by companies from urban areas. The renovation plan involves reorganizing the two existing buildings on the site into two separate buildings: Building A, which will feature a large atrium and connecting doors leading to the garden to encourage diverse interactions; and Building B, which will concentrate offices while making the most of the existing structure. By deliberately leaving some open space in the finishes and areas, the plan aims to allow for future expansion. The development policy considers not only the open spaces in the buildings but also the open spaces in the town as part of the facility, involving the town and expanding communities and activities that tend to be confined within the facility into the town. In addition to renovating the existing buildings, a new "ring-shaped promenade" (ring) connecting people, things, and events is proposed. This ring will not only functionally and smoothly connect the buildings but will also open up the closed-off structure of the existing buildings to the community, creating an environment where not only facility users but also local people can easily drop by. Furthermore, the courtyard enclosed by the ring becomes a comfortable outdoor space, where people can work comfortably while enjoying tea on the terrace, and events such as yoga lessons can be held on the lawn. Rather than just creating a lively atmosphere within the facility, the hope is that by inserting the ring, people will spill out into the town, creating a venture village that spreads outwards.
